- MHC: DC lost the case in the high Court which WCG took against the DC to remove the covenant that the College site could only be used for educational purposes. Malvern Hills Arts & Community College (MHACC) are looking to make another offer to purchase the building which has now been closed for over 2 and a half years.
- of great festivals and events in Priory Park – Malvern Food Festival, Malvern Pride with sincere thanks to the organisers, including Cllr Austin, Farmers Market with Children’s StoryTelling Festival coming up for second time this October which will include a Blue Whale venue in Priory Park.
- Heart of England in Bloom – Alex Bill at MHDC was pleased to ensure his team tidied up Malvern ahead of the judges visit and MHDC is pleased to support MTC’s continued efforts on this front.
- VAS speed sign – thanks to WCC Highways and MTC for work to ensure locations have been found on Worcs Road, Abbey Road, Pickersleigh Road, amongst others. 7 VAS currently in operation and funded by County Councillors including Cllrs Nielsen and Hanks.
- I have written a letter to Malvern Gazette, used in an article in Worcester News and have received a response to two emails sent today to Highways at WCC and to Cabinet member ref 20mph.
Cllr Mike Rouse response which was given at Council so is on the record and I feel able to share this, says….
“Turning to the wider 20mph point, I did say at council that we are introducing a process so that you as an elected member can request consideration of a zone through the Member Portal. This will be subject to feasibility assessment and engagement with local communities, the costs of which to be contributed from members’ devolved Highways funding pots. This approach allows you as a local member to spend the funds devolved to you for Highways purposes on your Highways priorities. I am told the system should be live at some point in August, though I would not be surprised if this ends up being September owing to resources and testing/bugs.” - Through my divisional funding, I’ve continued to support Malvern Town Football Club in my capacity as County Cllr and I have also supported the Cube and Great Malvern Primary School. Pleased to have been able to fund Women’s First team for £1500 and plan to add to this sum as their kit requirements are very considerable. Delighted to see the ladies team is making great progress. I have also put funding into dropped curbs along Worcester Road to facilitate clearer crossing points across what can be a very busy road.
- At DC level we held a traders meeting for Malvern Traders and these have been held across the district. I was pleasantly surprised at the positive nature of trading amongst the Malvern traders alongside some most welcome innovations. Including En Plein Air which has been wonderful during its first two weekends and will be repeated each Sunday 10-4pm on Bellevue. The next Malvern Traders meeting will be held 5th Sept at 6pm. Please let me know if you are a trader and interested in attending.
- Meeting with Priory Church has revealed that they are progressing with their Expression of Interest to Heritage Lottery Funding for the Priory development and for their £13m development project. Their aim is to encourage greater visitor numbers into the church and they have spoken about using this venue for more art exhibitions as has been trialled very successfully elsewhere.
- Town Centre plan development is ongoing and we are taking forward the proposals made in the plans published before the last DC elections. My first meeting is 17th August
- Malvern Theatres – extension plans following LUF funds include more flexible space, dance and sound recording studios. Funding can only be used for the theatre and not elsewhere but looking to see how can encourage use of these by our wider communities in Malvern to extend reach. Anticipated to come to planning in Summer 2024.
- Trying to find a venue for a Parkrun in Malvern – options under review.
